Life coaching, as well as mentoring, are booming fields. They are extremely popular professions worldwide and show no signs of decreasing in popularity. Certification programmes abound, but as you will read, this is an unregulated field. Certification is not required. Testing and licensing do not exist.
Unlike people who are trained as psychologists or counsellors who are licensed, life coaches are not therapists. A life coach may have no, some, or a vast array of education in almost any field and still have the title of “life coach”.
So knowing this, the question is why do people hire a life coach to help them ignite success in their lives? Education does not necessarily equal wisdom, however experience often does in the minds of many. Would you prefer to work with someone who has travelled the same path and succeeded or someone who has little-to-no real-world understanding?
Regardless of what you choose, it is possible for you to reap the benefits of a life coaching or mentoring relationship and become successful in the path that you have chosen. Here’s why.
What Is ‘Success’ For You?
Success may be defined in several different ways. For many individuals, just having sufficient money will do it. Some choose to measure it in terms of the scale of impact they make, or the quality of the relationships that they maintain. Others want to search inside, in order to find meaning or their true expression. Whatever your question is, no matter what you want your life to be about, life coaching can put you on the way to success.
WHAT IF everyone really, honestly, does have an exceptional gift, something which they can do better than anybody else in the world? Wouldn’t you want to find out what yours is? And if you discovered it, wouldn’t you want to create that gift and convey it?
Most frequently, when we think about an individual’s gift, or “genius”, we think of the clear ones – like being a great artist, musician, sportsperson or performer. Then we choose, well, I don’t have any of those, and we put our head down and move on with life. However, what if your gift is something more subtle like putting together spreadsheet models, trading antiques or icing cakes? Or much less tangible, such as being a specialist communicator, speaker, or nurturer of individuals? And what if you can do this thing better as opposed to anybody else who you know? What if you can do it better as opposed to anybody else in the world?
Achieving Success With Life Coaching
In life coaching, a coach is a thinking partner who is present with all of their senses: who listens deeply, sees behaviours and links together with the thoughts and feelings of the client. For life coaches to be effective, they have to become trusted partners to the individuals who they’re coaching.
Coaches are passionately curious about their life coaching client’s thinking, emotions and behaviour. This gives them a thorough grasp of the gap between where their coachees are now, and where they want to be.
Every single one of us is a strong leader in our own lives. A good life coach sees their coachee as the expert: rather than ‘teaching’ their coachee how to deal with their challenges, life coaches enable people to overcome obstacles themselves and go forward towards the goals, dreams as well as visions they have for themselves.
A life coach supports their client and walks alongside them in their coaching journey, trusting that they are able to find their own most appropriate solution. An effective life coach creates a space that orientates their client towards the future they want and holds them in that space with compassion and confidence.
