In today’s hectic world, it’s very difficult to lead a balanced life. In fact, experts often talk about work-life integration rather than work-life balance because – with the intrusion of technology into our lives – we end up working from the minute we open our eyes till the minute we go to bed.

What is Work-Life Balance?

‘Work-life balance’ simply means how well you’re able to balance how much you work versus how much you do the things that you really enjoy, for example your hobbies, etc.

Here are Some Tips on How to Achieve a Work-Life Balance

Take a Technology Break

We live in an environment that is ‘Always On’, with smartphones and other devices, and increasing demands at work. Do a digital detox by switching off your devices and take a break.

Restructure your life

The first step in restructuring your life is to look at your current situation. Are you a workaholic, feeling mentally drained or physically exhausted? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you need to look at changing your life for the better, for example, taking that well-deserved holiday.

Set Goals

Set realistic short and long-term goals in your life (relationships and job, among others), but remember what your ultimate goal is – to achieve a work-life balance.

Be Positive

Begin each day with the aim of making the most of it. It may not always go as planned, but it can go more smoothly with a positive attitude. Part of living a well-balanced life is learning how to handle unforeseen events. If you don’t let things get to you, you will not only learn to live a less negative and stressful life, you will learn to live in the moment. You can achieve anything with the right mindset.

Enough Sleep

Prioritise getting enough sleep. Research has shown that without sleep your brain and body systems don’t function properly, you can’t focus, and get trapped into working longer but less efficiently.

Avoid Time and Energy Wasters

Some things can drain the life out of you .They are very easy to spot, but really hard to avoid. The key is to stay focused, and prioritise your tasks. Or find new ways to do things such as holding meetings while doing something different, for example, a hobby that you or your colleagues enjoy.

Take Risks

Taking risks will not only make your life more exciting – but you will feel invigorated and more alive, and realise that having a work-life balance is absolutely essential!
