Tell us more about your background in the fitness industry

Towards the end of my first year at university, I stopped playing hockey. Naturally gravitating to fitness, I started training mostly to stay fit and healthy. However, it wasn’t until the final year of my LLB Degree that I started training with a goal in mind. If I wasn’t spending countless hours in front of my law books, I was in the gym living out my passion. You could say that is was the one place where I could forget about all the pressures of life and just do what I enjoyed most.

In 2016 I was presented with the wonderful opportunity of becoming a brand ambassador for Trifocus Fitness Academy. After this, I launched my fitness career when I completed my Personal Training Certification. When I was done, I did my Personal Training Diploma.

During time spent in Australia, I was faced with a very difficult decision. I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my fitness career. Someone once told me: if you are truly passionate about something don’t let another moment pass you by. Take hold of that dream and give it everything you’ve got.

Tell me more why you love the fitness industry

I love being fit and healthy. My fitness lifestyle helps me feel confident in who I am. I love the positive energy that one attains from being fit and exercising. I feel like my quality of life and overall health has improved. I have this enthusiasm each day to better myself and reach my goals.

How has #TeamTrifocusadvanced your career?

Trifocus Fitness Academy has given me the opportunity to pursue my dream of obtaining my personal training qualification. This has given me the opportunity to help others reach their fitness goals.

Which #TeamTrifocus courses did you do/are you doing?

I am finished with the Personal Training Certification. I am almost done with my Personal Training Diploma as well as the Comprehensive Pilates Certification.

What is your favourite exercise and why?

I adore squats on the smith machine. This is one of my favourite pieces of fitness equipment as it is safe and efficient to use. I can perform a variety of exercises and when I do my squats I can squat heavier without having someone to spot or assist me.

What is your favourite body part to train?

I love training my legs and bum as these parts of my body respond well to exercise.

What is your preferred type of training?

I prefer high-intensity weight-training. This means that I superset all my exercises. In addition, I try and keep all my weight-training workouts under 60 minutes.

How do you stay in shape?

I do 60 minutes of cardio five to six days a week in the mornings. In the evenings, I do weight-training over a six-day split. Here is the breakdown of my routine:

  • Monday: Chest and Shoulders
  • Tuesday: Back, Biceps and Triceps
  • Wednesday: Legs
  • Thursdays: Glutes
  • Fridays: Biceps, Triceps and Shoulders
  • Saturdays: Glutes, Hamstrings and Quadriceps

I do calves three times a week. Abs are done every second day.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to compete ?

If you love fitness and you really want to compete, go for it! Follow your dream. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you aren’t good enough. Hard work always pays off. Genetics is not necessarily a determining factor when it comes to fitness and competitions.

What is the most valuable knowledge you have gained from your #TeamTrifocus courses?

It’s really difficult to pinpoint one specific module or topic that was the most valuable. This is because the entire Personal Training Certification and Personal Training Diploma have really helped me expand my knowledge and boost my confidence.

Which #TeamTrifocs course/courses would you recommend  and why?

Although I have only done three courses, I really would recommend any course offered by Trifocus Fitness Academy as the level of education received is phenomenal.

What advice do you have for newbies/people just embarking on their journey in the fitness industry?

Don’t take anything at face value. Research yourself. Find a routine that works for you and with your body. Living a balanced lifestyle is crucial. This means that you need to make time for your fitness, social, spiritual and work lives as all these factors are important. One aspect of your life should never take preference over another. Its all about balance.

What keeps you motivated?

My bestie Lauren Jameson is my biggest motivator and supporter. She has been with me every step of the way and is always inspiring me to better myself and my physique. She encourages and pushes me during our training sessions. Whenever I feel like giving up she is always there to motivate me to keep moving forward.

What is your favourite motivational quote?

Don’t wait until you’ve reached your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of every step you take toward reaching that goal.
