Being a Pilates Instructor differs enormously from being a Yoga Instructor. Why, you ask? Because Pilates and Yoga are fundamentally different. Here’s why.
What is a Pilates Instructor actually?
A Pilates Instructor is responsible for instructing clients in how to perform the art of Pilates.
Kara Mayer Robinson describes Pilates as a workout:
“It’s demanding, but it’s not the kind of workout that always works up a sweat. It’s all about concentration and breathing. But you’ll definitely feel it in your muscles during each exercise.”
What are the Responsibilities of a Pilates Instructor?
A Pilates teacher first needs to have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy so that they can tailor-make their clients’ workouts according to the specific needs.
This is exactly what Trifocus Fitness Academy’s Comprehensive Pilates Certification will teach you – and so much more. Specifically, you’ll:
- Learn what the different planes are – of the body – in which the various Pilates movements occur,
- Get practical experience in which plane of the body to perform various movements, as well as
- Acquire an insight into how a woman’s body changes during pregnancy and how you need (as the Pilates Instructor) would to modify her Pilates exercises in order to fit in which this.
The Difference Betweeen Pilates and Yoga
On the surface, Pilates and Yoga may look the same – they are both forms of strength training and are performed very methodically. However, they are in fact polar opposites. Jennifer Carter Avgerinos from The Chopra Centre breaks the difference down.
“Pilates classes focus on strength, muscle toning, body control, and flexibility, with the main emphasis being core strength. Pilates is a disciplined practice that needs to be done on a regular basis to provide benefit … On the other hand, Yoga focuses on flexibility and broad muscle groups. It offers balance, endurance, strength, spirituality, and some really physical movement.”
The great thing is that at Trifocus Fitness Academy, you don’t have to choose between being a Pilates Instructor or a Yoga Instructor! You can be both and – to top it off – become a qualified Life Coach at the same time. With all three of these qualifications under your belt, you’ll become a Mind Body Specialist.
